WHAT ARE CRISIS RESIDENTIAL SERVICES?

Crisis Residential services go by many different names (Crisis Residential Unit, Crisis Stabilization Unit, Crisis Respite, etc.), but refer to a short-term, community-based, homelike setting with multi-day lengths of stay, often serving as a step-down from, or alternative to, psychiatric hospitalization.

Crisis Residential Treatment Programs (CRTPs) are designed to serve individuals who are experiencing an acute behavioral health impairment and whose adaptive functioning is moderately impaired. CRTPs provide short term, intensive and supportive services in a home like environment through an active social rehabilitation program designed to improve the lives and adaptive functioning of those it serves. 

The Crisis Residential Association believes that to be most effective in helping individuals who access CRTPs, programs should adhere to the following standards:

* Discharge planning that starts with in 12 hours of admission


PROGRAM ADMINISTRATION

The Crisis Residential Association believes that to be most effective in helping individuals who access CRTPs, programs should adhere to the following standards:

  • * Evaluate and track the following at a minimum:
  •          - Client Satisfaction
  •          - Client symptoms (pre & post)
  •          - Staff satisfaction
  • * Ability to admit individuals 24/7
  • * Response time to referrals under two hours
  • * Direct drop off & self-admission capabilities
  • * Home like environment and unlocked facility (though could      be "secured" facility)


CRA has developed the above criteria with decades of collective experience working in and administrating CRTPs across the nation as well as previous research done on Mental Health Crisis Programs.
